Home > Final Challenge
The contents of the final cache are a travel bug with instructions about how to use it. For more information about travel bugs, go here. This particular travel bug is dedicated to the 2014 camp staff at Bear Paw, and you have the privilege of releasing it into the "wild".
The instructions found in the final cache are:
Congratulations! You have reached the final coordinates; however, there is one more part to this geocaching challenge. The metal tag in this cache is a travel bug, and your final challenge is to start this travel bug on its journey: you need to create a totem, attach it to this tag, and then drop the travel bug into a geocache in or near a Scout camp. 1. Create a totem for the bug. This can be as simple as buying a "Bear Paw" keychain from the camp store, or you could carve and paint something fancy, or whatever you choose. It should be fairly small or squishable (so it can fit into small cache containers), and it should have a hole or loop (so this tag can be attached). Then, please take a picture of the finished totem and email it to me (see "Author" link below), so I can put it on the travel bug's log.2. Add the bug to your inventory. Log in to geocaching.com (you can create a free account if no one on staff has one yet), go to geocaching.com/track, enter "DR4EMY" into the "Enter the tracking code of the item" box and click "Track". Then click "Found it? Log it!" and select "Type of log = Grab it from the current owner".3. Find another cache in or near a Scout camp. Close caches are here and here, but if someone is planning to go to a farther Scout camp soon (Philmont, anyone?), maybe you want to give it to them.4. Drop the bug. Physically put the bug (your totem and the attached metal tag) into the cache's container. Then go to the cache's page on geocaching.com and log your visit. If you are using the same account as when you added the travel bug to your inventory, you should see a "Dropped off any trackables?" section at the bottom of the page. In the row for "DR4EMY" under "Action", click on "Dropped off". (If you are not using the same account, repeat step 2 above to add the bug to your account's inventory.) In the bug's log entry, type something interesting about the Scout camp you're visiting.5. Follow the bug's progress. Periodically go here and check to see where it has been lately. You will be able to see log entries posted by everyone who has picked up the bug and moved it to another cache. Hopefully, they will be other Scouts and will be dropping the bug at other Scout camps around the country. By reading their log entries, you can learn about other camps you might want to visit someday. You can also see a map of its travels. |
Thank you very much for the great week we had at Bear Paw! It is a beautiful place, but its success is due to the great people that serve it. I hope you've had fun with this geocaching challenge. If anyone wants to follow the progress of the travel bug in the future, remember to give them the "public" tracking reference: coord.info/TB6BPBC.
